Oh, no not at all. Depending on the person, birthdays can be all sorts of things. Maybe you take them out to a nice dinner, or some people like to throw birthday parties, some people don't like a big fuss being made so even just spending the day with them is more than enough. Some people don't want any gifts at all!

The point of a birthday is just to show that you're happy that person is in your life, and you're celebrating when they came into the world.
